Lisa Chapman, ASD & SLCN Specialist Advisor

BA (Joint Hons), PGCE, MMedSci (Human Communication Sciences), HCPC registered, RCSLT member

Lisa has a long-standing passion for supporting children’s communication. She initially trained as a teacher and taught foreign languages in a secondary school. It was during this experience that she discovered just how many children found school challenging due to their communication needs. This led Lisa retrain as a Speech and Language Therapist (SLT) and she has worked in the profession for over 15 years. Lisa continues to work part-time as a community NHS SLT in South Shropshire. Until recently she also worked part-time for the NHS in Herefordshire, as a specialist supporting children in schools with Developmental Language Difficulties (DLD).

Lisa is a firm believer that behaviour is a key part of communication. She works very closely with schools and parents. Lisa has provided training and supervision to teaching and non-teaching staff on a variety of communication themes. She has also written and delivered training packages to a wide range of professionals. These include Learning Support and ‘English as an Additional Language’ (EAL) teachers. Above all Lisa believes in working to support the ‘whole’ child. Over the last few years she has developed a growing interest in sensory processing and integration. Lisa is keen to explore how understanding a child’s sensory needs can better support their communication skills and behaviour.
